Walens take the beach

For the past two summers, I have been pregnant. So this spring, when Jeff and I were discussing possible options for our summer vacation, we were reluctant to talk Ocean City.  With two babies under two years old, the thought of lugging pack and plays, high chairs, strollers, diapers and everything else was way too daunting, not to mention dealing with babies at the beach.  Let's not forget baby gates...which since Gracie just started crawling last WEEK....we would need since our place is a townhome with three levels.   So after some careful planning, scoring a second pack and play from my friend Kristen,  I talked Jeff into it and we decided OC would be our vacation choice.

Ocean City is a shore town on the Delmarva penninsula. Both Jeff and I grew up vacationing with our families in Ocean City.  My family would plan our vacations around my grandmother's birthday in early August, while Jeff's family ended up purchasing several units in the bayfront Watergate condominium complex on Jamestown Road.  I have a TON of memories of the beach vacations shared with my parents, cousins aunts and uncles, and of course, my grandmother. She lived for the beach and would be one of those little Italian ladies who could head out about 10am and stay full on till 5ish, coming up for bathroom breaks only. Lunch? Served to her, on the beach. SPF?  Are you kidding? Baby oil with iodine.  Needless to say, she created soome amazing memories for us grandkids and I will never think or be in Ocean City without thinking about my grandmother, my aunts and uncles, my cousins, and my sister. There was nothing like an Ocean City vacation to us kids in the 1980's.

So we packed up the SUV, brought the double Bob stroller, two pack and plays, two booster high chairs, tons of diapers and wipes, and headed off.

Be sure to check out the fabulous beach session I did for my friend Angela Ward, creator of AngelaMae Designs.  Two sets of twins? Check. Four beautiful children? Check. One amazing session? You betcha.

Luke LOVED the beach airplanes. LOVED them!

Aunt Krissy always brings the BEST beach snacks!

Spoiled by the bay sunsets from Ross's balcony.

Mornings were pretty spectacular too!

View from Jeff's childhood vacation home at the Watergate Condo on Jamestown Road. You can see the Rte 90 bridge in the distance. The breeze? Non stop.

I never got tired of hanging the kids bathing suits out at the end of a beach day.

We explored Hidden Harbour - a beautiful development in North Ocean City on the bayside.
